All silver will tarnish if left exposed to the air and unworn. Moisture, sunlight, air and contact with chemicals can all speed up tarnishing as can contact with acidic materials such as cheaper gift boxes..
To keep your silver looking good:
Store your jewellery in a cool, dry place and don’t mix metals. Store it with something that will protect it, eg anti tarnish strips or silica packs
Invest in a silver polishing cloth, eg Town Talk, and wipe after each wearing.
Things not to do
- wear your jewellery in the shower , the sea, hot tub or the pool
- Leave it out in sunlight
- Clean with either toothpaste or baking soda as both are too abrasive and never use the ‘home remedy’ of baking soda and aluminium foil or silver dip.
Heavily tarnished silver can be cleaned by either returning to me or taking it to a local jeweller.
